Dubai’s ruler donates $463.8 million for "Dubai Cares"
Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Dubai Cares project. The project aims at educating one million people around the world through building schools, distributing school materials, coordinating food programme at schools, providing medical check-up and offering training workshops for teachers.
Dubai Cares objectives are in line with millennium development goals (MDGs). One such MGD is that of guaranteeing basic education to every child by the end of 2015. It is estimated that more than 100 million children do not have access to education.These children are primarily in Asia and Africa. Girls make up about 55 per cent of children denied access to education.
Sheikh Mohammed doubles Dubai Cares fund Dubai’s ruler said on Sunday 25th Nov 2007 he plans to donate over 1.7 billion dirhams ($463.8 million) to Dubai Cares, doubling the amount of money raised during the eight-week charity drive.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, made the announcement at a ceremony to mark the end of the fundraising campaign, bringing the total amount donated to around 3.4 billion dirhams.
